Suzanne Fraser

Suzanne Fraser is an Adjunct Professor at La Trobe University, Australia, and a Visiting Professorial Fellow at the University of NSW. Based in Sydney, Australia, she has 20 years' experience conducting social science research, and has led a range of teams including as the Director of a large university-based research centre.

Suzanne's research focuses on improving knowledge about and support for marginalised populations such as people who use drugs, people living with blood-borne viruses (e.g. HIV and hepatitis C), people who are unhoused, and LGBTQ communities. Via a range of methods such as in-depth interviews, media studies, policy analysis and critical analysis of medical and other expert literatures, Suzanne's research aims to challenge stigma and discrimination and improve health and other services for disadvantaged people.

Suzanne has a PhD in Gender Studies and has published a large body of books and refereed journal articles. She has also produced three websites aimed at improving public understandings and discussion of stigmatised issues (livesofsubstance.org; overdoselifesavers.org; and  vitalvoicesonhepc.org), and made radio documentaries for Australia's national broadcaster, the ABC's Radio National. Her research has been funded through a range of grants from national grant schemes, state governments and other sources.

On a personal note, Suzanne is passionate about improving responses to missing persons, as well as about addressing the social conditions that contribute to people going missing in the first place.
